Vegas contrasts – mini photo essay

With one last post regarding the contrasts offered by an ever renewing Las Vegas, I have included a few more examples – the evolution, captured with simple images that present a visual depiction of the ongoing flex and struggle.

Skyward glitz overseeing the old huckster excursion offers

Glass reflecting the future while locals continue to scribe the past

Choices of lodging – the old footprint slowly relinquishing ground to the towers of tomorrow

Vegas icons – mini photo essay

Las Vegas.

When the name is spoken, it evokes a variety of images, all dependent upon each individual that is imagining the city of excess in the southern Nevada desert.

Of the many conjured images, some are relatively unknown or seldom seen, while others are prolific and more iconic.

Lady Liberty protected by her flag (New York New York hotel)

Two of several elephants hidden away around the property (Mandalay Bay)

Harley Davidson “toy store” (no doubt one of their most visited retail locations in the world)

“The sign” welcoming one and all (complete with dancers on standby, available for image enhancement, for a modest sum)

Vegas contrasts – mini photo essay

Las Vegas, brightly lit with new LED technology and lasers, still clutches its faded neon past. Walking in certain areas of the region, especially ones that are transforming from past through present to a yet to be determined future, is a fascinating journey of contrasts.

Given the proper angle of view, the comparisons are quite striking – old beside new, current glitz and glamour overshadowing previous practicality. The perfect material for an interesting study in image creation.

Mandalay Bay looms large over Motel 8

The Luxor now outshines a motel across the boulevard

Two very different room rates a few hundred yards away

Vegas – mini photo essay

Las Vegas, known for many obvious reasons (casinos, large events, gambling, conventions, etc.), is a destination of big ideas – some of which present themselves in a ‘larger than life’ grand way, while others occupy a smaller footprint in the desert.

This first mini essay with a Vegas focus presents some images of contrasts between large and small, as well as new and old (including new that is made to look old) – all located at a historic crossroads in the Nevada desert.

Luxor hotel (new representation of large ancient objects, linked to the future)

Tropicana hotel (old style, complemented by vintage accents)

Little Church of the West (a small landmark with a big history, experienced by many)
